The 12 Days of Kindness - Family Edition is designed for children to complete kindness activities at home with their family or friends. Each day features a different act of kindness, such as preparing a meal together or playing a family game. The activities promote positive interactions and strengthen familial bonds. Children are encouraged to write or draw about their experiences and reflect on how these acts made them feel. Teachers may wish to have students share their experiences back in the classroom as a discussion or show-and-tell activity.

Pose questions about past and present objects, people, places and events
Use comprehension strategies to build literal and inferred meaning and begin to analyse texts by drawing on growing knowledge of context, language and visual features and print and multimodal text structures
• For Children Needing Support:
- Guided Start: Parents or guardians can help the child select an activity and discuss how they might complete it.
- Simplify Reflection: For younger children, encourage drawing instead of writing about their experience.
- Extra Time: Allow additional time to complete the activities, ensuring children don’t feel rushed.
- Assistance with Tasks: Provide help with more complex activities, such as preparing meals or creating cards.
• For Children Ready for More Challenge:
- Add Personal Touches: Suggest adding extra details to the activities, such as personalising cards with decorations or creating themed snacks.
- Extended Reflections: Encourage older children to write more detailed reflections on what they learned from each act.
- Leadership Role: Have the child lead a family member or sibling in completing an activity, fostering leadership and collaboration.
- Community Connection: Expand on the kindness acts by involving neighbours or friends (e.g., preparing and sharing snacks).
• Family Reflection Night: Plan a night where the family discusses all the activities completed and shares their favourite moments.
• Creative Storytelling: Encourage children to write a story or draw a comic strip about one of their favourite kindness activities.
• Gratitude Jar: Create a family gratitude jar where each member adds a note after completing an activity, reflecting on what made them feel thankful.
• Seasonal Traditions: Link the activities to holiday traditions, making it part of the family’s Christmas celebration.
