Description

The Real or Rubbish Word Sort mats are a terrific literacy rotation that requires your students to use their decoding skills to determine which words are real and which words are nonsense words. It is part of our larger ‘Decoding Detectives’ unit.

Differentiation

Modifications

There are 3 levels of real and nonsense words to choose from:

  • - Teal: common digraphs
  • - Yellow: Long vowel sounds
  • - Red: multiple digraphs and medial sounds.
     

EXTENSIONS

Students can put the words into a sentence to prove that they are real words.
