This activity has been created as a fun activity to practice making equal groups to represent multiplication. Students roll 6 or 10-sided dice to create an array and then have a partner check their work. A great teaching resource when introducing early multiplication skills.
Take photos and use as formative assessment and track student progress.
Multiply and divide by one-digit numbers using repeated addition, equal grouping, arrays, and partitioning to support a variety of calculation strategies
Recognise and represent multiplication as repeated addition, groups and arrays
Recognise and represent division as grouping into equal sets and solve simple problems using these representations
Describes mathematical situations and methods using everyday and some mathematical language, actions, materials, diagrams and symbols
Uses a range of mental strategies and concrete materials for multiplication and division
Uses the structure of equal groups to solve multiplication problems, and shares or groups to solve division problems
Recognise and represent multiplication as repeated addition, groups and arrays
Apply repetition in arithmetic operations, including multiplication as repeated addition and division as repeated subtraction
Recognise and represent division as grouping into equal sets and solve simple problems using these representations
Work with a partner to complete.
Students can complete the representation using concrete materials only.
Students can verbally explain the number sentences using repeated addition and multiplication.
