Sensory Break Cards

Sensory Break Cards

Sensory Break Cards were designed to support students with special needs who require short bursts of kinaesthetic activity throughout the day. Often used as incentives, this set of cards includes a large variety of activity options to suit all age groups.

Suitable for

  • Parents
Lesson Structure
  • Individual Activity

Consider creating a display wall of the various activities for students to select. You could even let students write their names on their favourite activities to create ownership in the classroom. Laminate the charts and let students use whiteboard markers to write their names, so you can easily remove them at the end of the year. Alternatively, let students select 3 activities they will complete as fast finishers. Glue activities to personal reference cards for individual students. These same cards may be used for students to select ways to calm themselves when they can feel themselves getting overwhelmed. Identify the symptoms of these overwhelming feelings, and let them select the activities that make them feel better. The cards would also be great hanging as bunting in a rewards or celebrations corner, displaying reward options. When a student is completing an activity, they could wear a lanyard that has a hole-punched card attached, so other staff members know your student is where they are supposed to be.
