Students will learn about sustainable use and management of renewable and nonrenewable resources, including the custodial responsibility First Nations Australians have for Country/Place. Overview

The key concepts in this unit include:

  • Identifying main types of vegetation including forest, savannah, grassland, woodland and desert and exploring natural vegetation and climate types in Australia and Africa or South America.
  • Exploring the role of vegetation in sustaining the environment.
  • Exploring how people’s connection with environments can be aesthetic, emotional and / or spiritual. Investigating how First Nations Australians adapted ways using knowledge and practices linked to the sustainable use of resources and environments.
  • Exploring strategies to protect particular environments and identify the importance of water to the environment and to sustaining the lives of people and animals.
Learning Intention
  • We are learning to understand the importance of environments, including natural vegetation and water sources to animals and people.
  • We are learning to understand the use and management of renewable and non-renewable resources and waste, and the different views on how to do this sustainably.
