This is a fun movement activity that students can do in class OR via remote learning, such as Zoom calls. You can easily do this activity with some students learning within the classroom and others at home.
Either way, it’s a whole class activity and it’s a whole lot of FUN!
Students will use syllable recognition to create dance movements and they will love every minute of it. Perfect for any class, getting to know you activities or use throughout the school year. We also love it to help prepare a piece for school assembly performances
Use phoneme–grapheme (sound–letter/s) matches, including vowel digraphs, less common long vowel patterns, consonant clusters and silent letters when reading and writing words of one or more syllables, including compound words
Understand how to use knowledge of digraphs, long vowels, blends and silent letters to spell one and two syllable words including some compound words
Present dance that communicates ideas to an audience, including dance used by cultural groups in the community
Use strategies to work in group situations when participating in physical activities
Adopt inclusive practices when participating in physical activities
Improvise and structure movement ideas for dance sequences using the elements of dance and choreographic devices
Explore movement and choreographic devices using the elements of dance to choreograph dances that communicate meaning
Develop technical and expressive skills in fundamental movements including body control, accuracy, alignment, strength, balance and coordination
Uses a variety of strategies, including knowledge of sight words and letter–sound correspondences, to spell familiar words

Identify all Standard Australian English phonemes, including short and long vowels, separate sounds in clusters
