Our 'Text Connectives Posters' were created by request and include examples of connectives for students to use in their writing. These posters have been created to be displayed in the classroom as a point of constant reference. They will be used daily and include the following connectives:
Uses an increasing range of skills, strategies and knowledge to fluently read, view and comprehend a range of texts on increasingly challenging topics in different media and technologies
Uses basic grammatical features, punctuation conventions and vocabulary appropriate to the type of text when responding to and composing texts
Comprehends independently read texts that require sustained reading by activating background and word knowledge, connecting and understanding sentences and whole text, and monitoring for meaning
Plans, creates and revises texts written for different purposes, including paragraphs, using knowledge of vocabulary, text features and sentence structure
Communicates effectively by using interpersonal conventions and language to extend and elaborate ideas for social and learning interactions
Reads and comprehends texts for wide purposes using knowledge of text structures and language, and by monitoring comprehension
Identify how text connectives including temporal and conditional words, and topic word associations are used to sequence and connect ideas
Understand that connections can be made between ideas by using a compound sentence with 2 or more independent clauses usually linked by a coordinating conjunction
Understand how texts are made cohesive through the use of linking devices including pronoun reference and text connectives
Understand that simple connections can be made between ideas by using a compound sentence with two or more clauses usually linked by a coordinating conjunction
