Times Tables Memory Game for Years 3 and 4: Memory Match

Times Tables Memory Game for Years 3 and 4: Memory Match

This times tables memory game for Year 3 and Year 4 is Times Table Match, a Memory Match interactive whiteboard game by Teach This aligned to the Australian Curriculum. Students recall multiplication facts for 3, 4 and 5 and build towards facts up to 10 × 10, such as 6 × 9. The board has 16 numbered cards hiding eight pairs, and each pair is a fact and its answer. Players tap two cards to flip them, and a matching pair stays face up. Cards that do not match are tapped to turn back over, so students need to remember where each one sits.

It opens in Microsoft PowerPoint on any interactive whiteboard, panel or projector, with no macros, no student logins and no student data collected. A game takes 10 to 15 minutes as a two-team battle or a maths rotation at the board. The notes list every pair and card position, so the teacher can check any answer at a glance.

Differentiation

Modifications

Give students a multiplication grid so they can check each fact before choosing the second card. Let students play in pairs so they can help each other remember card positions.

Extensions

Ask students to say the related division fact each time they find a pair, such as 42 ÷ 6 = 7. Challenge the class to play without saying any answers aloud until the pair is checked.
