Year 4 Times Tables Booklet - (Differentiated)
This comprehensive differentiated multiplication and division workbook supports Year 4 students in developing strong number fluency, problem-solving skills, and conceptual understanding of multiplication and division.
The booklet progresses from times table recall and equal groups through to 2- and 3-digit multiplication, division with remainders, and real-world problem solving.
Each page follows a consistent, student-friendly structure:
- A fully worked example to model thinking
- Four differentiated entry points: Starting Point, Section A, Section B, Section C
- A Challenge task to extend higher-level thinking
- A self-assessment check-in to build student reflection
Students begin at their appropriate level and work forward, making this resource ideal for mixed-ability classrooms without additional teacher preparation.
This workbook is perfect for independent practise, structured maths sessions, homework, or ongoing skill consolidation, while also providing built-in opportunities for assessment and data tracking.
Learning goals
- We are learning to recognise and explain multiplying and dividing by 10 using place value charts, numeral expanders or sliders and to use a calculator to understand the relationship between the place value of digits when multiplying and dividing by 10.
- We are learning to use a range of strategies to solve addition, subtraction, multiplication and division where there is no remainder.
- We are learning to use estimation and rounding to check and explain calculations including transactions involving money.
Curriculum alignment
Australian Curriculum covers QLD / SA / WA / NT / TAS / ACT.
Differentiation
Modifications
- Direct students to start at the appropriate level (Starting Point, A, B, or C) based on ability.
- Provide multiplication charts or scaffolds for students with weaker fact recall.
- Break pages into smaller chunks for students with processing or attention challenges.
- Read word problems aloud for students who struggle with literacy demands.
- Use alongside manipulatives (arrays, counters) for students needing concrete support.
Extensions
- Encourage students to complete Section C and Challenge tasks with written explanations.
- Use Challenge questions as maths investigations or group discussions.
- Have students create their own word problems or fact families.
- Extend into real-world maths projects (budgets, arrays, grouping scenarios).
