This unit is based on the Year 4 Australian Curriculum HASS Inquiry Skills, Knowledge and Understandings.

Students investigate the main countries, topographic features, environment and cities of Africa and South America. They explore and research similarities and differences in climates, natural vegetation and native animals between Australia and Africa or South America.

They explore biomes of the world and vegetation specific to each biome.

Students investigate connections with the environment through aesthetic, emotional and spiritual connections. They discuss how to protect and conserve habitats.

Students investigate indigenous hunting and gathering, including managing food resources and similarities and differences in foods in coastal and central areas.

They explore natural processes, including the water cycle and decomposition.

Students demonstrate their responsibility and understanding of sustainability and actions they can take at home.
