Brain Breaks Whiteboard Tool: 12 Movement Breaks (Foundation to Year 6)

Brain Break Board is a set of 12 brain breaks for Foundation to Year 6 by Teach This, an interactive PowerPoint tool for quick movement breaks on the whiteboard. The class picks a number from a board of 12 tiles, and each tile opens a break such as Statue Freeze, Kangaroo Hops or Balloon Breathing. Every card has a standing version and a sitting down version. A 30-second timer starts by itself on each card. When the timer ends, the board comes back by itself so the class can pick again or return to work. It opens in Microsoft PowerPoint on any interactive whiteboard, panel or projector, with no macros, no student logins and no student data collected.

Use a break after a long writing task, between lessons or before a test, when the room needs a reset in under a minute. The sitting down versions work on wet weather days or in a crowded room, so there is no need to move furniture.

Differentiation

Modifications

Use the sitting down version for any student who needs to stay seated, as every card includes one. Choose a calming break such as Balloon Breathing when a student finds busy movement overwhelming.

Extensions

Ask students to invent a thirteenth brain break with a standing and sitting version and lead it for the class. Play two or three breaks in a row as a short warm-up before Physical Education.
