Nouns, Verbs and Adjectives Game for Years 2 and 3: Sugar Sprint
This nouns, verbs and adjectives game for Year 2 and Year 3 is Sugar Sprint, an interactive whiteboard racing game by Teach This aligned to the Australian Curriculum. Students identify nouns, verbs and adjectives in sentences and see how adjectives build noun groups. The game has 15 short sentences, such as 'The fluffy cat slept', and each question asks for the noun, the verb or the adjective. Four teams pick a lolly racer and move one step along the candy track for every correct answer. Teams write A, B, C or D on a mini whiteboard, then tap their answer on the board.
It opens in Microsoft PowerPoint on any interactive whiteboard, panel or projector, with no macros, no student logins and no student data collected. A race takes 15 to 20 minutes and works as the warm-up before students write descriptive sentences. The notes give a one-line explanation for every answer.

Differentiation
Modifications
Colour-code nouns, verbs and adjectives on a class anchor chart and leave it on display during the race. Read each sentence aloud and ask students to act out the verb before they answer.
Extensions
Ask each team to change the adjective in a sentence to a more precise one, such as changing 'yummy cake' to 'sticky cake', and explain how the picture changes. Students can write their own sentence with one noun, one verb and one adjective for another team to sort.
