2026 The Fluency Performance Board - Book Week

2026 The Fluency Performance Board - Book Week

Develop confident, expressive speakers with The Fluency Performance Board, a reusable oral language resource that helps students rehearse and perform with purpose. Designed as a companion to The Fluency Ladder, this engaging resource focuses on the performance side of fluency, encouraging students to experiment with pitch, tone, pace, volume, pauses and emphasis while presenting familiar texts and spoken pieces.

Students begin by selecting one of nine performance prompts, including favourite books, poems, songs, movie quotes, advertisements, jokes and character voices. They then choose one of nine performance challenges that require them to vary how they present their chosen piece. With 81 possible combinations, every activity feels fresh, making this a resource teachers can return to throughout the year.

The resource also includes a performance planning sheet, rehearsal checklist and reflection page, encouraging students to plan, practise, perform and evaluate their speaking skills. Because students provide their own content, the resource is highly inclusive and allows emerging readers to participate confidently alongside more fluent readers.
Originally created to support the 2026 Book Week theme Symphony of Stories, this resource is equally valuable for oral language lessons, literacy rotations, speaking and listening activities, drama, Book Week celebrations and classroom presentations throughout the year.
