Fractions Exit Tickets Whiteboard Game for Years 3 and 4
This fractions exit tickets game for Year 3 and Year 4 is Fraction Exit Tickets, an interactive whiteboard game by Teach This aligned to the Australian Curriculum. Students recognise and represent unit fractions, find equivalent fractions and connect tenths to decimal notation. The board shows 12 numbered cards, and each card holds one fraction question. Questions include ordering 1/2, 1/8 and 1/4, finding 1/4 of 20 and writing 7/10 as a decimal. One tap flips a card to show the question, a second tap shows the answer, and a third tap marks the card as done. A round takes 5 to 10 minutes.
It opens in Microsoft PowerPoint on any interactive whiteboard, panel or projector, with no macros, no student logins and no student data collected. Use it in the last ten minutes of a fractions lesson, with students answering aloud or on a mini whiteboard before they pack up.
Learning goals
- We are learning to recognise 1/2, 1/3, 1/4, 1/5, 1/10 and their multiples to a complete whole and fractions of groups in different ways.
- We are learning to find equivalent representations of fractions and make connections between fractions and decimals, e.g. ΒΌ of 1 metre = .25m or 25cm.
- We are learning to recognise 1/2, 1/4, 1/3, 1/5 and their multiples to a complete whole and to locate fractions on a number line.
- We are learning to investigate equivalent fractions, e.g. halves, quarters and eighths or thirds and sixths.
Curriculum alignment
Australian Curriculum covers QLD / SA / WA / NT / TAS / ACT.
Differentiation
Modifications
Provide fraction strips or paper shapes so students can model the question before they answer. Let students choose from the easier cards, such as cards 1 to 4, and answer with a partner.
Extensions
Ask students who answer correctly to explain their thinking with a drawing or a second example, such as another fraction equal to one half. Students can write three new exit ticket questions of their own for a partner to answer.
