Where Are My Reindeer? - Christmas Grid Coordinates Game
Where Are My Reindeer? is a Christmas maths game where Year 3 and 4 students use grid coordinates to find Santa’s nine missing reindeer.
Each player secretly places Santa’s nine reindeer on their own grid map, labelled A to J across and 1 to 10 down. Partners take turns calling out coordinates, such as C7, to track down each other’s reindeer. When every reindeer has been found, they compare maps to check they match. It’s a festive spin on a classic guessing game, and students practise reading and giving grid references without noticing they’re doing maths.
At a glance: a 3-page printable set with grid maps and simple instructions on each page. It’s black and white, so it prints cheaply for the whole class.
Use it in maths rotations, as a partner activity in the last weeks of Term 4, as a fast finisher activity, or as a calm Christmas activity when energy is high.
Learning goals
- We are learning to use simple scales, legends and directions to interpret grid reference systems to locate and describe positions and pathways.
- We are learning to create and interpret two-dimensional representations, e.g. maps and follow directions to familiar locations.
