15 Minute Rotation Timer Whiteboard Tool (Foundation to Year 6)
Rotation Timer is a 15 minute rotation timer for Foundation to Year 6 by Teach This, an interactive PowerPoint tool that counts down on an analogue clockface. The 15 minutes begin straight away when the teacher presses Start. A yellow wedge shows the time left and shrinks back to the 12 as the minute hand moves, with a digital countdown beside it. When the hands reach the 12, a Time to Rotate slide tells groups to move on. Restart begins again, Stop jumps to the end, and Go again starts a fresh 15 minutes. It opens in Microsoft PowerPoint on any interactive whiteboard, panel or projector, with no macros, no student logins and no student data collected.
Run it during literacy or maths rotations so you can stay with your teaching group instead of watching the clock. Students see the time left at a glance, so groups pace their own task and pack up on time.
Differentiation
Modifications
Give a two minute verbal warning before the end for students who find transitions hard. Show younger students the yellow wedge at the start and explain that their turn ends when the yellow is gone.
Extensions
Ask students to read the analogue clock at points during the rotation and say how many minutes are left. Have a student timekeeper give each group a five minute warning using the clockface.
